BSA Cycles Ltd was set up in 1919 for the manufacture of both bicycles and motorcycles.
BSA recommenced manufacturing bicycles on their own behalf from 1908. BSA also signed an agreement with the Three Speed Gear Syndicate in 1907 to manufacture a 3 speed hub under licence.īicycle production ceased in 1887 as the company concentrated on producing the Lee–Metford magazine-loading rifle for the War Office which was re-equipping the British Army with it (orders of 1,200 rifles per week). BSA bought The Eadie Manufacturing Company of Redditch in 1907 and so began to manufacture the Eadie two speed hub gear and the Eadie coaster brake hub. In 1893, BSA commenced making bicycle hubs and continued to supply the cycle trade with bicycle parts up to 1936. In 1880 BSA manufactured the Otto Dicycle, In 1881 the company began to manufacture safety bicycles, 1905 the company’s first experimental motorcycle was constructed. What cycles needed was large quantities of standard parts accurately machined at low prices. The gun factory proved remarkably adaptable to the manufacture of cycle parts. In 1880, BSA branched out into bicycle manufacture. Specifically aimed at the professional cyclist, a range of faster, lighter and stronger bikes of international standards was manufactured for the first time in India. Another pioneering move made by the company was the introduction of brand Montra. The Track & Trail stores offer an international range of bikes for the serious cyclist and serve as a testament to the company’s consumer focused approach. Today, the BSA Hercules Exclusive Stores format serves as a role model for other bicycle outlets in the country.
With over six decades of experience in offering consumers a range of bicycles and fitness equipment, TI Cycles has constantly come up with new trends to suit evolving consumer needs. The first Hercules bicycle was rolled out in 1951 and four more brands were added to the portfolio – Phillips in 1959, BSA in 1964, Montra in 2011 and Mach City in 2015.
